Lathe & Milling Machine Selection by Part

Start From the Part,
Not the Machine

Most buyers arrive knowing the component they have to produce, not the model number they need. This page works the other way round from a catalogue: pick the kind of work you do, see which of our machines is built for it, and what its limits are.

Industries

Six Kinds of Shop That Buy These Machines

The models named under each heading are the ones whose capacity, spindle bore and travel suit that kind of work. They are a starting point for the conversation, not a fixed rule.

Auto & Motorcycle Parts

Hubs, shafts, brake components, gear blanks. Repeat batches of turned parts where cycle time and part-to-part consistency decide whether the job pays. Bar-fed small components go on the gang-tool machines; larger housings need the Ø82–105 mm spindle bore.

Valves & Fittings

Bodies, bonnets, threaded couplings, flanges. Work is dominated by boring, facing and threading on castings or bar, often with a second milling operation for the flange face or port drilling.

CK6150B · CK6166DH · XKM40A

Hydraulic & Pneumatic

Cylinder tubes, pistons, rods, manifold blocks. Long turning between centres for rods and tubes, then flat and slot work on the manifolds — both operations covered without leaving the building.

Mould & Die Shops

Electrode machining, plate squaring, pocket and slot milling. Bed-type travel matters more than spindle speed here, and the BT40 spindle on XKM40B takes heavier roughing tooling than an R8 taper will.

XKM40B · XKM4 · M5

General Job Shops

Mixed, low-volume, often one-off work. A manual lathe and a turret mill still earn their keep here, because setup time dominates and programming a short run costs more than it saves.

Machine Tool Dealers

Stock machines for resale, private-label builds, and accessories to sell alongside them. Custom colour, nameplate and configuration are available on dealer programmes.

The Outer Limits of Each Line

The largest part each category can take. If your component is outside every row here, we will tell you rather than sell you a machine that will not hold it.

Longest part on a conventional lathe is 3,000 mm , the longest capacity we build. For long shafts and cylinder rods the manual machine is not the budget option, it is the only option we build.
What to Send Us

Four Things and We Can Answer Properly

You do not need a finished drawing package. These four points are enough for us to name a model and a realistic configuration.

A Sketch or Drawing

Even a hand sketch with the two or three critical dimensions on it. PDF, DWG, STEP or a clear photo all work.

Material and Batch Size

Cast iron, mild steel, stainless and aluminium all load the machine differently. Batch size decides CNC versus manual.

Tolerance That Matters

Name the one or two dimensions that actually have to hold. General tolerances rarely change the machine choice; a single tight bore does.

Your Power Supply

Voltage, phase and frequency at your site. We build for a range of supplies, but it has to be specified before the machine is wired.

Send Us Your Part Drawing

No need to fill anything in twice. Tell us the part, the material and the quantity per year, and an engineer replies with a model and the configuration it needs — not a general price list.

  • Drawing, sketch or photo — with the two or three dimensions that actually matter
  • Material grade, and how many pieces per batch
  • Supply voltage, phase and frequency — the machine is wired to it before it ships
  • Destination port, for freight and for whether a CE declaration is needed
